Some Notable Events This Month

So my friend May finally plunged into the world of homeowners, with the excitement of mortgage payments, property taxes and home maintenance. Yey! Welcome! Anyhoo, to celebrate her new purhcase, she held a housewarming party at her new place, complete with tons of food from Tribu and of course, magic mic! Al and I were in a hurry to get there since both of us had to work on a Saturday, my other friend Mo was hanging out at home, we had to pick up another friend, we had to drive all the way from SJ, and it was raining (so Al was driving slow). So we got there pretty late (sowee). They have a very nice house in a nice neighborhood and we got a tour of the place. Stayed late at night until little Jess said bye bye, lol.

Speaking of events, I just added a new calendar widget on my right sidebar courtesy of 30 Boxes. Of course, I customized it for my blog so it really doesn't look like a widget, hehe. But check out 30 Boxes, it's really cool. You can sync it with your mobile phone and facebook. I can just update through facebook. Also, I heard that YouTube increased their file size limit to 1GB (although the video length limit is still 10 minutes). Enjoy!

Another major event going on right now is Oracle OpenWorld which starts today. Too bad I won't be around to check it out (will be in San Diego until Wednesday) but it looks really cool this year. Just check out the band listings (Lenny Kravitz, The Smithreens, Billy Joel, Stevie Nicks, English Beat) and participating establishments. How kewl is that?

Also, check out the Pinoy Pod for some news about the old punk rock venue scene which was also a Filipino restaurant, Mabuhay Gardens. It just re-opened (under another name) but there is a benefit concert tonight for the former Filipino owner, Ness Aquino, who is sick. For those who don't know what this famous and historical venue is, it is like the west coast version of CBGB, hosting lots of punk and new wave bands, as well as comedians like Robin Williams and Whoopie Goldberg. Some of the bands that booked their shows there - Dead Kennedys, Romeo Void, Black Flag, The Damned, Iggy Pop, Megadeth, Metallica, Death Angel, Redd Kross, Devo, The Ramones, Blondie, Chris Isaac, Neil Young, and Husker Du. Here's an event to forget - the oil spill that just happened in the San Francisco bay. Sad. Read all about it here.
